Tips for extending the life of a pre-lit tree

Posted on June 23, 2021July 3, 2023 by last-minute-christmas-presents

Christmas holidays typically last less than four weeks. Once Christmas is over, it’s time to pack up.

It is essential to store your pre-lit tree properly if you want to keep it fresh and good-looking for a longer period. If artificial trees and decorations are not stored correctly, they can become damaged. The next holiday would be a challenge if you had to buy another one.

Here are five tips to make sure your pre-lit Christmas tree lasts as long as possible:

1. Warranty

You must ensure that an artificial tree has a warranty before you buy it. The warranty attached to a tree tells us a lot about its material quality and expected lifespan. Several companies offer a three to five-year warranty on trees, but we recommend you get one that covers trees for a much longer period, usually between seven to ten years.

2. Check for burnouts

Make a quick check of the lights and decorations on pre-lit trees. Once you find some burnouts, you can quickly replace before the next period of Christmas. In addition, LED lights tend to last longer as they are less likely to burn out.

3. Dismantle

There are usually three different parts to an artificial tree. Store your tree flat, not stacked. To take it apart, you should disassemble it from top to bottom. Unplug each section carefully so as not to damage it.

After dismantling, carefully and gradually fold up your tree’s branches to ensure safety.

4. Keep it out of a box!

The mistake many people make is to store their artificial trees back in the boxes they came in. The tree will be there for 11 months and a few weeks, so you might want to consider a safer option; like a storage bag.

5. Great location for storage

Keep your tree dry, clean, and cool. Store away from pests, sunlight, moisture, and uncontrolled environments. It would be fine to store items in a basement or closet.

Finally, do not stack objects on your tree. This should provide you with a much longer lasting pre-lit tree than you’ve ever conceived.
